Alabama Express triumphs in the Orr Stakes

AlabamaExpress-OrrStakesThe 37th Group 1 winner for Redoute's Choice and the 13th Group 1 Inglis Easter graduate since 2013 for Arrowfield - that's 3YO colt Alabama Express...

Almost exactly 20 years after a glorious colt named Redoute’s Choice won the C.F. Orr Stakes, his lookalike son Alabama Express has triumphed in the same race, becoming his Champion Sire’s 37th individual Group 1 winner.

The 3YO colt displayed the heart and acceleration to match his arresting good looks when he held off Fierce Impact & Kings Will Dream to win the $500,000 1400-metre weight-for-age contest in 1:22.07.

$750,000 Colt for Golden Slipper Winner Capitalist

capitalistxbooklet-1023Foaled and raised at Newgate Farm for his breeder Nick Vass, this Capitalist colt from Booklet made a big splash at Magic Millions on Wednesday when selling for $750,000 to James Harron, who purchased his sire from this sale in 2015.

A handsome chestnut stamped unmistakably in the image of his sire, the colt is a half-brother to smart winner Groundbreak and is the third foal of stakes-winning Tale of the Cat (USA) mare Booklet.

Sadly for her owner, Booklet died last year and her final foal is another filly by Capitalist.

$1.5 Million Written Tycoon Filly Sets Benchmark for Sire

written-tycoon karuta queen-filly-1020Fillies have been selling like second class citizens at Magic Millions this year in comparison to colts, but Strawberry Hill Stud’s Written Tycoon filly from Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Karuta Queen bucked the turned when selling for $1.5 million on Thursday.

The flashy chestnut was a showstopper and quickly caught the attention of Victorian bloodstock agent Sheamus Mills, who secured the star filly, now the highest priced yearling for her sire Written Tycoon.

Zoustar Mare Madam Rouge Wins $1million MM Snippets

madamrouge-mmFresh from success in the Magic Millions sale ring, Zoustar kept up the good work on the MM Raceday at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Chris Waller improved his enviable record on Magic Millions Raceday when Madam Rouge clinched a last-stride win in the $1 million It’s Live! in Queensland Magic Millions Snippets (1200m).

The champion trainer praised the ride of jockey James McDonald who, after beginning from the inside gate and settling three back on the fence, was able to plot a path to the middle of the track on Madam Rouge.

The daughter of Zoustar, who is out of the Al Maher mare Cabernet, unleashed a powerful turn of speed over the final 200m to win by a neck.

Snitzel’s Daughter Away Game wins the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

AwayGame-MM-Classic-HomePageChampion sire Snitzel affirmed his status as a big-race stallion when his daughter Away Game raced away with Saturday’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic 1200m RL.

A last-start stakeswinner, the Maher & Eustace-trained filly was among several well-qualified runners who started at long odds in a competitive field, but at the business end of the race only Arrowfield graduate Stellar Pauline (by Not A Single Doubt) came within two lengths of her.
