TRAINING LEGEND GEORGE HANLON DIES AT AGE 92

Triple Melbourne Cup-winning trainer George Hanlon died in Geelong in Victoria aged 92. Hanlon?s 37 Gr1-winners included Melbourne Cup victors Piping Lane (1972), Arwon (1978) & Black Knight (1984), as well as Family Of Man, Lawman, Taras Bulba, Our Sophia, Diatribe, Correct, Kip, Gnapur, Amarant, Prince Salieri, Our Pompeii, Bobalex, Royal Snack, Mr Prudent, Marjoleo & Bellition. Hanlon began his career in South Australia under Jim Cummings (Bart?s father) & was granted an owner-trainer licence in 1946; he trained for 35 years at Correct Lodge stables at Epsom, before moving to Leopold near Geelong in the mid-1980s. Hanlon was inducted into the Australian Racing-Hall-Of-Fame in 2002.
