ELIZA PARK & BLUE GUM FARM CLEAN UP IN BREEDING AWARDS
03/08/09

Not surprisingly the Champion Victorian Stallion has gone to boom sire BEL ESPRIT

The former champion sprinter has enjoyed a breakout season with Group 1 winner Bel Mer (Robert Sangster Stakes) and boom youngster Black Caviar amongst his successes.

FIRST SEASON HONOURS go to Blue Gum resident ELVESTROEM which joins an illustrious list of stallions to take out that award over the years.

?Victoria has built up an exciting stallion roster over the past five years and it is testament to the hard work by Eliza Park and Blue Gum Farm that they have won these awards,? said TBV President Tim Johnson.

2008/2009 TBV AWARD WINNERS

John Ingleton Memorial Champion Victorian Stallion
BEL ESPRIT ? ELIZA PARK

For the second consecutive year Bel Esprit has taken out the honour of Champion Victorian Stallion. With only three crops racing the Eliza Park resident had a breakout season securing his first Group 1 as a stallion thanks to Bel Mer?s devastating victory in the G1 Goodwood Hcp. There was also a sign of things to come when Black caviar demolished his rivals at his two starts as a 2yo, including a 6 length win in the Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes at Caulfield.

Stable Financial Champion Victorian Freshman Stallion
ELVSTROEM ? BLUE GUM FARM

Whilst the breeding world didn?t expect this globetrotting G1 champion to necessarily throw early precocious types, Elvstroem once again proved his ability to achieve the unexpected after his first crop to race showed they could match it with the best youngsters. Carrara ensured his first crop collected Black Type after a gutsy win in the Listed Doomben Slipper and there is much too look forward to with the likes of Viking Legend and Dorsoduro. He finished with 34 runners and 6 winners.

Champion Victorian Broodmare Sire
LAST TYCOON ? BLUE GUM FARM

Former Blue Gum resident Last Tycoon has again won the award as leading Broodmare Sire, thanks to the performances of Roman Emperor. Last Tycoon finished 4th on the Australian list with former top 2yo sire Rory?s Jester in 5th overall.

Gallagher Bassett Champion Victorian Broodmare
SWING QUEEN ? WOOD NOOK FARM

Bob Scarborough?s Wood Nook Farm has won the Champion Broodmare award thanks to the feats of their former mare Swing Queen who is the dam of Gallica. The Mick Price trained mare won the G1 1000 Guineas and G1 Schweppes Oaks during the season to beat the dam of Apache Cat.

Winning Edge Presentations Leading Victorian Breeder
CONTRACT RACING

After a stellar season that included breeding the winner of the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes in Reward for Effort Contract Racing has won the race for leading breeder honours in Victoria. Other notable performances from their breeding barn were Amberino who won the G2 Emancipation Stakes at Randwick and the ill-fated Sunburnt Land who won the G2 Caulfield Sprint.

TBV Leading Small Breeder
VALDA KLARIC (LITTORIO), LARRY BARTLE (HEART OF DREAMS) & PAUL RADFORD (APACHE CAT)

In what can only be described as a triumph for small breeders, the title of Leading Small Breeder goes the way of three breeders. Valda Klaric who owned and ran the stunning Westbrook Park in Avenel has tied with the breeders of Apache Cat and Heart of Dreams. All owned less than five broodmares in that season and have shown that careful matings at affordable prices can result in great things.
